                       Livelihoods   in  Sabaragamuwa

Rubber Cultivation can be considered as a major source of income in Sabaragamuwa  province of Sri Lanka. In the past , the British introduced rubber cultivation to Sri Lanka. Now a days , with the increase in rubber production, rubber cultivation in Widely done. Rubber cultivation is usually done in areas like Rathnapura , Kegalla , Kalawana etc. Footwear , Carpets , gloves , erasers , Sports equipment etc. are products made using rubber.

Like rubber cultivation, tea cultivation also has a prominent position in Sabaragamuwa.  In Nuwaraeliya District where the tea industry has been carried out on a large scale, Sabaragmuwa also has the necessary environmental factors for tea cultivation.     Green tea, Black tea , white tea, Vanila tea , Herbal tea, Rooibos tea etc. are tea products with different flavours.     

 

G e m s  I n d u s t r y   💎

Mining industry can be called as a unique industry belonging to Sabaragamuwa province . Rathnapura, Balangoda , Kahawaththa , Kuruwita  etc.  At present , the mining industry is carried out on a large scale using machinery. Diamond , Star Sapphire , Prussian Blue , Ruby, Blue Sapphire , Green Tomalian etc. are High value gems. They are polished and exported to foreign countries to earn foreign exchange and are also used for jewellery making.
